Then you visit a distribution center and watch them work. They check inventory twice a day—not in real-time. The actual problem is the morning report arrives at 9am but store managers need it by 7am. A two-hour batch timing change solves it, not the real-time system they specified.

Requirements in large organizations describe solutions stakeholders imagined, not problems they validated. Go see the work before you build what they asked for.
