Being a product manager in an enterprise context is different. Ask finance how they use your tool and they describe the official process. Watch them and you see the Excel export they massage for two hours weekly because your format doesn't match their VP's expectations.

Interviews reveal what people SHOULD do. Observation reveals what they ACTUALLY do. Finance exports then reformats. Operations screenshots dashboards into PowerPoint. Executives have assistants pull data elsewhere because access controls don't match org structure. These workarounds are your real requirements.

The best enterprise PMs I know ask "can I shadow a full cycle?" instead of "what features do you need?" They watch month-end close and board prep, then build features that eliminate manual steps after using your product.
